Same here. My X800XL seems to be working perfectly!

There I just spouted that from memory. Gets you expanded memory along with extra upper memory to load all those stupid TSRs and drivers high. Want to get rid of expanded memory emulation but still want UMB? Replace RAM with NOEMS. Want to run a game that uses DOS4GW and won't need expanded memory or need lots of conventional memory (won't need to mess with loading high)? Don't even use EMM386. I loved tweaking DOS config files. There's nothing quite like getting 630K of low memory free. Oh you spoiled Windows-ers

Seriously though I can't believe NV didn't make sure their drivers worked with all popular games. This isn't some 10 year old game we're having problems with.

I personally prefer nvida, despite this issue I really like nvidia drivers vs ati drivers (+ Software). But will not be turning this in to a flame war, will save that for another thread

I really dislike both companies releasing specific beta's or rushing drivers (MS WHQL only means they won't crash windows) for x game then releasing the general release stable month or two later.

Sounds like there tweaking the way textures load across all the cards.

Created and Ati / Nvidia threed in off topic http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=72710

I have a 6800 in my notebook that's fast as hell. I also have every ATI card from 9700 on down at home. Both are amazing manufacturers that build fantastic products absolutely on par with each other. I am very unimpressed with NV releasing drivers like this, and with the optimizations in their drivers that cause visual problems in a few games (like KOTOR) unless you set High Quality (everyone benchmarks on Quality). ATI is ahead in visual quality and driver quality (except OpenGL) right now. ATI's 6X AA is also tanglibly better than NV's maximum 4X AA (their 8X is a performance-killing hybrid 4X MSAA 2X SSAA that's of questionable worth).

Neither has an advantage unless one's name sounds better to you Or you like Red better than Green. It's just like sports. Or warfare.

Don't get me started on notebooks swaaye. I have been waiting on a settlement check so I can order the new Sager 5720 with the 7800GTX. Then I can unleash myself from this desktop and its 6600GT. Not that the 6600GT is a bad card, runs everything I want at decent frame rates and all. I just want something that is capable of handling the games I like to play and more mobility than a server case.

Started with Dos 5 -> 6.22, Windows 3.11 -> 95 -> 98 -> XP
I still have fun thinking about how hard it was with IRQ + jumpers and sound cards conflicting

Nvidia (and Ati) are in a race to get Anti-Aliasing working / improved with dual cards - think about this, anti-aliasing takes the rendered scene and smoothes it out to look more natural.. now you have two cards both working with the scene and trying to get both to a) play along b) have both cards pump out in time to the screen in synch. They are messing with the textures, plus add in dual core cpu threeding.

Oh god I remeber the IRQ jumper setting days. I also remember having to write your cdrom drivers into config.sys and autoexec.bat. I started in the DOS 5 days too and have gone up from there 3.11->95->98->NT3.51->NT4.0->2000Pro->XP Whatever (I have home and Pro)
NT Server Edition->2000 Server->2003 Server
oh yeah Debian (started on that back in 1997) ->to many linux distros to think about.

I'm also having the problem but thought I should point out that it isn't corrupt textures on the ground, but the filtering they use on the ground textures isn't being applied (why that is, I don't know).
I attempted to add a bug about this at Guild Wars Support but it wouldn't let me - GREAT support!

Unfortunalty it's a Guildware Engine + Nvidia driver (something change bug). This will be the 2nd time Nvidia and GW had issue - rember the crash on exit bug

This time around it looks like it's nvidia issue since downgrading the driver fixes it, as opposed to the GW update and all nvidia drivers (less the newer 77.77 and later) now crashing on exit all of a sudden.

(edit) Update the new "Official Beta" 81.87 still has the issue listed.

The release notes of the beta 81.87 drivers say the problem is yet to be resolved.

Ahh good old Police/Space/Kings Quest Sierra games... I can still remember saying "Wow, VGA 256 colors in the remake of Larry 1, few things can beat this"

And my brother 5 years old swaying his whole body when turning in Test Drive 1 like he were driving real life cars... now thats hilarious, then it was stunning. Sometimes I imagine taking a time machine and a high-end PC or XBOX360 and show ppl the current games... I imagine something simmilar would happen in the next 15-20 years. Full Virtual Reality soon?

As for the topic, with a 6800GT and 81.85 I get the same, but not as hard as the ones in the screenshot. As I always play in windowed mode minimizing and maximizing solves the problem and takes like .5 secs with alt+tab

I should of done the topic as
"New Nvidia Drivers 81.85 and Known issue with GW & 6xxx series cards"
Can a mod change this? It does affect all 6x series cards.

I so remember being blown away with Wing Commander Privateer II great graphics and filmed moves with Clive Owens - and how a pain in the rear it was to configure, I think I used a boot disk to get it to run...

The joy of dos memory management.. spent so much time for each game too..

Who in holy hell can't we get a new Wing Commander game? EA sucks in so many ways. Destroyed Origin they did....

On the topic of the NV drivers, no nothing in the 8x.xx series works in Guild Wars. I've heard they also screw up other games. These drivers were built for FEAR and Quake 4 to win benchmarks and appease FPS gamers. Down the road I'm sure they will improve, but right now they are junk IMO. Stick with the newest in the 7x.xx series.

The whole space combat sim genre are dead... Last game I can think of was from the wing commander series creator after going to Microsoft creating a game called Star Lancer... I would love to also see an updated Xwing vs Tie Fighter with a new state of the art graphics engine and eax 4.0

Back on topic

I'm noticing a glitch with npc's in towns. There getting the "blue" elite monster glow on them in towns off and on (Ring of Fire espically).. Anyone running 81.xx and the 5700 Ultra series getting the same issue or is this part of halloween effect.

I have to admit that Guild Wars is a decent game when it comes to graphics overall. Since Civ4 has come out many have had lots of problems. My son for example has a decent Toshiba Satellite 2435 with a P4 2.4Ghz.512megs ram and a Geforce to go 440 32meg video "card". He cannot play that game very well because you cannot turn certain graphics OFF. Like the movies.

I am working with him to try different drivers on his laptop to get it to play half-way decently. I am going to bump his ram up to 1GB and hope that will help some. He could play Guild Wars with no problem....Civilization has never been a graphic hog until this latest release of Civ 4. Allot of college kids are having this problem and can not afford a new laptop just to play one game.

Has anyone seen any kind of acknowledgement from Arenanet about this? I'd like to know when they're planning on fixing it because it's rather irritating.

EDIT: Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Does anyone know when this is going to be fixed? I'm sick of resizing my window to fix this.

Interestingly, I did not see an open support question regarding this issue on the Arenanet site. I went ahead and submitted a support ticket.

I have been experiencing this issue also and just wanted to keep this thread alive until we get resolution.

My system:
AMD AthlonXP 3200+ on Asus A7N8X Deluxe (v2.0) using 1007 BIOS
1GB PC3200 Dual Channel Corsair RAM
Antec TruPower 480W PSU
XFX GeForce 6600GT using 78.05 drivers
Creative SB Audigy2 ZS
WD1200BB HDD

Easiest work around is goto options and turn the textures down a notch and back again.

I wouldn't call that a solution, more a work-around. Anyway, better work-arounds have already been mentioned.

Thanks to Terik for raising a support ticket. I attempted to do so when I first noticed the problem but their backward support logging system wouldn't let me.
